Foodsaf tablets are made from Troclosene sodium (NaDCC), the effective chlorine-producing chemical that is recommended by the Department of Health for environmental disinfection procedures in hospitals.
After washing to remove soil and any insects, all salad stuff, vegetables and non-peelable fruit should be properly disinfected in a 50 ppm available chlorine solution provided that the food is to be consumed within a short period.
For in-flight catering and the sandwich making industry where there is a lengthy time-lapse between preparation and consumption, 50 to 150 ppm available chlorine may be needed.
Food preparation surfaces should be thoroughly washed with a minimum of 240 ppm available chlorine after washing with detergent and water and rinsing with clean water. Foodsaf tablets may also be used to disinfect equipment, walls, tiles, floors, cups and cutlery as well as cloths and mops.
